Depending on the state you live in or length of your paddling vessel. Some states don’t require you to register your boats with the state. You may look at this is a nice option or convenient not to have to register your boat. But what happens if you kayak goes missing or is stolen?
Over the years there has been instances with missing or unattended boats being found with no way to find the owner. This can also be a major safety issue for rescue teams if your boat just happens to catch a gust of wind and goes solo down the river or lake. There is always that case where someone steals your boat to later abandon it or try to sell it at a pawn shop.
There are a lot of benefits of registering your boat but sometimes there are no options to register. Sioux Empire Paddlers is offering free boat registration for our members. With this registration we would work with the local Police and GF&P to let them know we have this information in the case of missing or found boats. We believe this could possibly help out rescue team, law enforcement agencies and boat owners.

We want to make sure all our members are safe and don’t have to go through the hassle of finding boat information in the case of a stolen or lost vessel.
Another great way to help with lost and stolen boats is to use a “If Found Contact” decal on the inside of your boat. Starting 2019 we will send out one free “If Found Contact” decal with your membership letter. You can buy extra *here*.

A: We keep all information private. Sioux Empire Paddlers will only release information to the current owner or if requested by the owner to the local authorities

A: We will store all information on two back up external hard drives. These hard drives will be locked in fireproof safe along with all our membership information

A: You are able to register all the boats you own
Q: What is the cost to register my boat for extra safety measures
A: We are offering this free of charge for all current Sioux Empire Paddler Members
Q: Can I do this instead of registering with my state
A: This registration is just for safety, lost, and stolen boats. This registration does not take the place of legally registering your boat with the state you paddle in. Please contact your local court house about your state laws for registering your boat “South Dakota Boat Licensing and Registration”
