Sioux Empire Paddlers Launch Committee was formed at the end of 2019. The committee consists of Sioux Empire Paddler Members and Sioux Empire Paddlers Board Members.

This committee was formed for many reasons but the main reason is to improve paddling in the Sioux Empire area. Kayak and Canoe launches are very important to our paddling community. A nice easy access launch makes paddling easier and more fun. We have some launches that are dreadful to use and our hope is to improve them one way or another through this committee.

What we hope to gain from our new Launch Committee:

1. Collect data for existing and possible locations for kayak/canoe launches

2. Catalogue needs and wants for existing locations to improve paddling

3. Collaborate with entity owner of launches to help improve and maintain launches

4. Familiarize paddlers of launch locations and conditions

5. We would represent all types of launches on local lakes, Big Sioux River, Skunk Creek, and Split Rock Creek

6. Design and engineer plans to improve launches

7. Raise funds to improve launches on local lakes, streams and rivers

Our first official project was getting a kayak rack at Farmfield Park in September 2020 (57th Street and Western Avenue). This launch is probably the most used launch in the area. A lot of paddlers like to drop off their gear and shuttle their vehicle to the end. With this rack they will be able to utilize the rack to lock down their kayak. Locking down their kayak to this rack will hopefully prevent theft and give peace of mind.

If you wish to donate to our Launch Committee and help make our goals successful please click below or become a Sioux Empire Paddler member where 50% of funds go towards our Launch Committee.
